Iceman over the weekend...

Eric was out to the ranch on Sunday, and despite all the wind, he did manage to work with Iceman a bit. They had a small audience at first, so he was a little nervous about that and Eric could not get that close. Once everyone left, Eric managed to get back in the stall and work some more. This time Iceman was much more relaxed, Eric was able to rub all over his body and down his left/front leg and pick his hoof up for about 5 seconds. After a good 30 minutes of making contact and talking to him, he finally relaxed and bent his back leg and started to go to sleep.

Looks like the BLM will be out at Shiloh on Wednesday's vet day to freeze brand Iceman while he is down for his castration. We don't know how we will ever be able to read the white brand though against his white coat!

Eric in the Danger Zone, but Iceman doesn't even care...

Learning to move with Eric...

Afterwards, Gus stopped by to tell Iceman "Good job".

More Images in the Wild...

Here are two wonderful photos of Iceman when he was in the Wild taken by Tara Kilpatrick.

It's such a shame that Iceman is no longer free...

After the Winds...

Iceman, who is now a dusty color after the 40 mile an hour winds we had all day yesterday, enjoyed the warm sunshine today. He also spent time watching Shiloh's new Isolation area fencing going up...

Soaking up the sun...

Watching the work going on around him...

Look at those great Mustang hooves! It's just incredible how healthy wild Mustang feet are...

Haltering- a big step!

Eric is making great progress with Iceman. Today he was able to rub him all over with an improvised Carrot Stick and could run his hands over his neck and shoulder and even down his front leg. Iceman is very quiet and trusts Eric...

Rubbing him all over...

Then, we were able to walk him into a makeshift chute of corral panels. Iceman just walked right in...

And we were able to get a halter on him. It only took Eric one try...

Standing still...

And, a Halter is on! We are keeping a long cotton lead rope attached for now which will make it easier to handle him...

Eric spent more time with him...

Success!

Good job, Iceman!

Now that he has a halter on and is quiet in the chute, we are planning to have Iceman gelded on April 1st during our vet day at Shiloh...

Settling in...

Iceman is settling into his new home, he took some feed from Sally's hand and let her touch his nose. But, he did not eat a single carrot, so he will have to learn what a carrot is! I guess they don't grow out in the Nevada desert...

Looking good!

Very interested in his new home...

Come on out and see me, y'all!

Iceman's Color?

Someone asked a very interesting question: Is Iceman a Cremello or a Perlino? Well, I looked up Perlino and you know what, he just might be!

See what a Perlino looks like here!

See what a Cremello looks like here!

I just assumed that the reddish tint was from the desert dirt in his mane and tail, but maybe not? I will take a close look at him today and see if together, we can't figure out just what color Iceman is!

Please take a minute to vote as well!

Iceman Arrives at Shiloh!

Welcome to The Shiloh Mustang Makeover Project!
A few weeks ago, Shiloh was informed by Eric Clayton, our Mustang Expert, that one of the young stallions that we have followed in the wild not far from Shiloh, had been rounded up by the BLM. So, Eric contacted the BLM and arranged for the horse to come to Shiloh. We have named him Iceman, as he is a pure White/Cremello with blue eyes. Iceman, who is still a stallion, will be gelded, courtesy of the BLM, as soon as he settles in to his new home.

Due to BLM Mustang adoption guidelines, his arrival kicks off a year long project at Shiloh. Eric is the designated project leader, and many of our volunteers will be helping him work with Iceman. After one year, Iceman will be put up for adoption to a new home and future! This will be an amazing learning experience for all of us, so please come on out to Shiloh and meet Iceman in person!

Please see photos of Iceman in the Wild here!
